Microneedling 101: What to Expect from Your First PiXeL8-RF Treatment

Microneedling with radiofrequency takes skin rejuvenation to the next level. Here is your complete guide to preparing for and recovering from your first treatment.
Microneedling Has Evolved
Traditional microneedling — using tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin — has been a gold-standard treatment for years. But at NJOY, we use PiXeL8-RF, which adds radiofrequency energy to the equation. The result is dramatically better collagen stimulation with faster results and less downtime than traditional microneedling alone.
What Does PiXeL8-RF Treat?
- Acne scars — both ice pick and rolling scars respond well to RF microneedling
- Fine lines and wrinkles — particularly around the eyes, mouth, and forehead
- Large pores — RF energy tightens pore walls for a refined texture
- Skin texture irregularities — rough, dull, or uneven skin
- Mild skin laxity — jawline definition, neck tightening
- Stretch marks — both newer and older marks can improve
Before Your Treatment
Preparation is simple but important:
- Discontinue retinoids 5-7 days before treatment
- Avoid sun exposure and self-tanners for 1 week prior
- Arrive with clean, product-free skin (or we will cleanse you)
- Skip blood-thinning supplements (fish oil, vitamin E) 3 days prior
During the Treatment
After cleansing, a topical numbing cream is applied for 20-30 minutes. Once you are comfortably numb, your provider passes the PiXeL8-RF handpiece across the treatment area. You will feel a warm stamping sensation — the insulated needle tips deliver RF energy precisely at the depth your skin needs. The treatment takes 20-40 minutes depending on the area being treated.
After Your Treatment: Recovery Timeline
Day 1: Redness and mild swelling — think moderate sunburn. Apply the provided recovery serum and avoid touching your face.
Days 2-3: Redness fades. You may notice tiny pinpoint marks and some flaking. Continue gentle skincare only.
Days 4-5: Most redness resolved. You can return to mineral sunscreen and light makeup.
Days 7+: Resume your normal skincare routine including active ingredients.
Weeks 4-12: This is when the magic happens. New collagen continues to build, and you will notice progressive improvement in texture, tone, and firmness.
How Many Sessions Do You Need?
Most clients achieve excellent results with 3 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart. For deeper acne scarring, a series of 4-6 sessions may be recommended. Annual maintenance sessions keep results fresh.
